		BECOME A HOMEOWNER Habitat affiliates are independent, locally run, nonprofit organizations. There are 35 Habitat affiliates in Minnesota that build homes in partnership with families. Each Habitat affiliate coordinates all aspects of Habitat home building in its local area, including partner family selection. Your local Habitat affiliate can give you information on the availability, size, costs, "sweat equity" work requirements, income eligibility requirements and application process for Habitat houses in your area. Families are selected based on three main criteria: Need Ability to pay, and Willingness to partner. Habitat for Humanity builds homes with families who demonstrate need and willingness to partner with Habitat by helping to construct their own homes. The hands-on experience of home construction is empowering for homebuyers, providing a sense of pride, ownership and investment in the communities they help to build.
